My Pictures

Welcome graphic

I've been following a low carb (Atkins) lifestyle since September 21, 2003.

On this page, I will try to include some progress pictures to show the difference this lifestyle has made in my body.  My health has improved, and things are going along wonderfully.

From the looks of the photos, I just kept accumulating weight without really realizing how serious it had become.

I guess stretchy waistbands and loose clothing can "hide a multitude of sins".  Thankfully, my doctor woke me up by suggesting I improve my eating habits (and I thought I was doing fine prior to that).

Update, February 25, 2005:
Am joining the Reserves March 1st.  I'm somewhat apprehensive about what changes that will bring about both in diet and in lifestyle, but I'm hoping that what I lack in food choices will be made up for in burning off those carbs and calories with the physical training involved.  I'll try to update this site when I can, even if it's after I return from the summer training.

Update March 17th 2005:
Am soon to be jobless, again, but the Reserves Unit is trying to get me on Basic Training toward the middle of April, followed by other training.  This could take me through the summer, eating things that are not strictly on this plan, as I won't be making the meals, and will have to rely on other people's cooking.  Hopefully the exercise will compensate for the increased number of carbs.

Update December 30, 2005 - Driver Training with the Reserves
I'm the one in the front.
Training with the Reserves was cut short last summer.  I finished the first half in May, but got injured and was sent home early June.  Had to work the rest of the summer at trying to get well again.  My shoulder still has a tendency to bother me, but I continue to participate in any opportunities available to me, working toward summer 2006, when I am anticipating being sent away for 13 weeks for further training (completion of last summer's, plus further skills more specific to the trade).

I'm still maintaining a fairly steady weight/size, and try to exercise regularly, so as to be ready for anything that I may be required to accomplish.  Keeping up with people who are similarly-aged to my children has proven to be a challenge.

Here we are at my son's grad dinner/dance.  For once, I don't feel absolutely horrid about posting a picture.  I am trusting that my arms are getting more toned from all the shoulder exercises I've had to do on my road to recovery from the injury during Basic Training.  Even if they don't look smaller, at least they will be more muscular!!

Early Spring - 2003 (Feb?)

Looks like I'm becoming quite round.  Good thing the doctor made the suggestion he did - and I decided to follow it.  Who knows just how round I would have become?

My attempt at "L-Sit" - Looks like I need some work

This was taken in the summer of 2006 - probably June or July. I wouldn't say it's the most complementary picture on the site, but it's better than some.

Why do I still look chubby in some pictures?

New suit and everything - and now I look at the picture and I seem chubby all over again.  Sometimes perseverence is difficult.

August 24, 2006 Update
Well, things are going better since I decided to focus on what I was eating, once again.  I had let things get out of hand and not focus on proper menus.  Nothing was really "wrong"; it was just probably wrong combinations.

The picture above was taken at the end of a four km run (well, perhaps not every step), which took us through part of St. John's, and up Signal Hill, which is quite near vertical, especially when you're at the bottom looking up at the task ahead of you.  However, we did it, and we weren't the slowest, either.

5 km in the wind and snowy weather
My hubby and I did it, though - our first time with official race numbers on our chests!!  Yes, there were times I wanted to give up, but I had to make it back to where the vehicle was parked, so I continued, and did it in under 30 minutes, which I feel is a great accomplishment.

I didn't have a clue how much weight I had actually accumulated.
Now that I see the photos - it astounds me.

When I started on a Low Carb Lifestyle, it was for the health benefits (at the advise of my doctor).  The weight loss was a definite bonus, and now that I look back at pictures, I really see the difference physically, as well as in my health.

Mother Son Dance @ Grad May 13/06

Update May 26, 2006
My son and I at his graduation dinner & dance.  I'm still maintaining according to my clothing, but my visits to the gym have probably made an impact on the scale reading.

I shouldn't care about the numbers on the scale as long as I know that I'm not really getting larger, according to the clothes.

I never knew that it would be harder to maintain weight loss than it was to lose it (or gain it for that matter).  But it is probably a mental dilemma - a person wants to see change, progress or something, and maintaining doesn't provide that stimuli.

That's me in the avocado outfit.  I thought I was looking rather good.  Now, I have that outfit hanging in my closet - just for comparison.  I had actually lost weight to fit into it.
